114 Boone Square St. / The Dog House

In 1970, The Dog House started in Durham. Circa 1971, this Hillsborough Dog House location opened for business. The building was designed by Dog House owner/founder Stuart G. Henderson, via his architectural design business Southeast Plan Service.    Its current location was the site of a gas station (see last photo). This Dog House was moved to its current location from its original location near the front of the parking lot of where the "old Walmart," now OC Social Services is, on Mayo Street. In the late 1980s or early 1990s, the structure was disassembled, moved via semi-trailer, and then reassembled at this current location.   The business was owned and operated by the Henderson family for 45 years, until 2015 when it was purchased by Mike Martin with the original owner (and wife/widow of Stuart), Joan Henderson, staying on as Director of Operations.
