Henderson Faribault (also spelled Ferrybold, Ferrabow, Ferribo, Feribo, Pheribo, and Pherribo) was born enslaved in Edgecombe County, NC, and came from Raleigh to Hillsborough to work as a cook at the Nash-Kollock School. He met and married Peggy Long (1843-1935) in 1867 after she migrated from Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Henderson worked as a chef for most of his life, locally working for not only the Nash-Kollock School, but for Paul Cameron, for Julian Carr at Occoneechee Farm, for a student club at UNC, and the Bingham School (in Mebane). He also variously worked at a Hotel in Concord, NC, and the NC Normal and Industrial College in Greensboro. He took the train from his home in Hillsborough to Greensboro to work.

From 1871 to 1902, he purchased land in and around Hillsborough, which he left to his children (see OC Deed Book 49, Page 353; Deed Book 57, Pages 437, 439, 441, 443, and 595).

He died circa 1902 and is buried in the Margaret Lane Cemetery.

(Thanks to Walter Faribault, Seletha Pherribo, and Janice Irwin for most of this information.)
